the nahenahe sounds of the `ukulele

in the Hawaiian language, "`ukulele" literally means "jumping flea", a colorful metaphor for the sounds that can jump and fly out of the instrument in the right hands. (but eh, if you get `ukus, stay away from me brah!!!) i first learned to play back in fourth grade... we had a lot of fun playing and singing Hawaiian songs. i took it up again a few years ago after my sister let me borrow her husband's brother's Kamaka, which was just sitting idle in a closet in their house. now i feel very comfortable playing, although there is always more to learn.

sheet music page coming soon! for now, check out the links below...

Tropical Storm Hawai`i is one of the best sheet music archives out there... great Hawaiian web portal too!

i consider jake shimabukuro (of pure heart and colón fame) to be the greatest `ukulele player ever... check out this clip of him going nuts!

more on jake... i think this site is geared more towards his obsessed, lovesick female fans though!!!
