tucson, arizona - march 2002

we took a road trip out to tucson in the spring. took us about 8 hours but we had several drivers so it wasn't too bad. i thought LA was a desert... but arizona is truly desert country. hot and dry... and they don't even TRY to grow grass there, everyone's yard is just dirt and rocks, and the occasional scraggly desert tree!

our main reason for the trip was to visit ana's best friend rachel and see her lu`au. she was the lu`au chair for the hawai`i club at the university of arizona. they put on a great show, with an impressive array of samoan, tahitian, and hawaiian numbers, and justin was there to perform too! the event took place outdoors, as a true lu`au should, and the food was `ono! good job rachel!

on the way over, most people were knocked out like brannon here... nothing like a long car ride to put people to sleep.

this one's priceless! just to clarify, they're snoozing, not smooching...

wakeup time saturday morning... mata somehow got into this compromising position! probably attacking brannon as usual.

ana and rachel prepared some `ono food for our breakfast! mmmmm... mahalo nui loa, ladies!

because of our "connections" with the lu`au chair, we got some good seats up front!
